Gettysburg's Monuments: From Their "EYE'S" Gen. Samuel Crawford
Brigadier General Samuel Crawford
The wonderfully detailed statue of Brig. Gen Crawford was dedicated June 28, 1988. The sculptor was Ron Tunison and this was his first of eventually four works at Gettysburg. In conversation with Ron prior to his passing he noted a few special features of the "Crawford." Ron would view the original coat worn by Crawford at Gettysburg and model its appearance on the statue. The statue is facing towards Franklin County Pennsylvania where Crawford was born. Another feature Ron modeled was the flag with bullet holes. One hole actually passes thru the flag, the only example on the battlefield.
